Biography
As a Senior IT Services Specialist at Loughborough University Mark is responsible for the storage and backup infrastructure at the University. He has been at the University for over 10 years and has been in his current role for over 6 years. During his time at the institution Mark has also looked after Microsoft Active Directory and the Solaris infrastructure. As a member of a team that predominantly manages Windows server operating systems Mark also has extensive experience of this discipline. Mark has been involved in numerous projects, most recently as Technical Architect on the University's i2012 Data Centre project. This multi-million pound project delivered a hybrid cloud in partnership with Logicalis. Loughborough is a large campus based, research-intensive University with diverse computing requirements. The University has a resilient virtual data centre distributed across two physical campus locations.
Abstract
Changing the face of Data Centre provision. Refreshing your entire network
Working with a new strategic partner (Logicalis) to deliver a hybrid cloud data centre intended to replace departmental and central IT server silos offered significant challenges of both a technical and people perspective. This presentation will cover the final design and how the people and technical challenges were overcome resulting in the migration of over 350 servers and services from 16 departments onto the new platform.
